Ginn Family Farm

Located in Clinton, Ontario, the Ginn Family Farm operates a purebred red Angus cow‐calf operation. Over the past 25 years, the farm has taken major steps to create a healthy and productive ecosystem. Over 20,000 trees have been planted in order to provide increased habitat for migratory birds and local wildlife.

Restricting cattle from streams with the use of fences and creating stream crossings has been central to preserving riparian corridors and enhancing water quality and fish habitat. The introduction of endangered plant species alongside native grasslands also increases available habitat for wildlife. The Ginn Family Farm demonstrates that introducing environmental initiatives such as tillage strategies, forest management, pasture rotation and the establishment of native grasses can lead to increased profits for food producers.

In recognition of over a quarter century of sustainable management practices, the Ontario Cattlemen’s Association awarded the 2012 Environmental Stewardship to the Ginn Family Farm.
